Family Turkey Project

On Monday, your child brought home the information about the Family Turkey Project.
Help this Turkey make it safely past Thanksgiving this year by disguising him as a part of your family. Please have fun and be creative! You may use any medium you would like to decorate the turkey. In addition, have your child plan and write a creative story about their turkey on the attached paper. Most importantly, HAVE FUN!
Please return the turkey and story to school by MONDAY, NOVEMBER 16TH, so your child can share their turkey and story with the class.

I can't wait to see the turkeys and hear the stories!

Who knew learning about Weathering, Erosion, and Deposition could be so much fun!

Today we played the weathering, erosion, and deposition game! Each team had to weather away a piece of their unit cube landform, crab walk (erode it) to the other end of the classroom, and deposit it on the carpet. It really showed how weathering away of rock makes it smaller and smaller, and erosion is when the sediment is moved from one place to another, and deposition is when the sediment is dropped off in a new location.

Can You Prevent or Slow Down Weathering & Erosion?

Today Team Explore conducted a weathering and erosion experiment. We had three water bottles cut in half filled with grass, leaves, and dirt. Mrs. Buhrow sprayed the three water bottles with water and we observed the run off from each bottle. We discussed what the bottles looked like before and what they looked like after. We then talked about how erosion and weathering connect to this experiment.

Pumpkin Math

As part of our fall celebration we did some pumpkin math. First we estimated how many lines were on the pumpkin, how much we think it weighs, how big we think the pumpkin is around, and how many seeds we think is in the pumpkin. After we estimated we gathered the facts about our pumpkins. Once we found the facts we compared our estimations to the actual results. As you can tell we had fun getting our hands dirty :)

Fire Safety Week

Last Thursday, we were able to participate in an assembly to learn about fire safety. We met Sparky, learned a cool fire safety song, and watched a fireman climb the really tall ladder on the fire truck. A big thank you to the West - Allis Fire Department for the great learning experience!

Read-A-Thon

At the end of September our school participated in an all school Read-A-Thon. We were able to spend time reading our favorite books with some stuffed animals in the hallway. What a great way to celebrate our PBIS kick-off event!!
